Laurie "Dean" Olson

We regret to announce the passing of Dean Olson on Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at his residence in Portage la Prairie at the age of 55 years.

Dean was predeceased by his father-in-law, Roy Lenton. He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Jo-Anne of Portage la Prairie; parents, Lawrence and Shirley Olson of Gladstone; mother-in-law, Diane Lenton of Portage la Prairie; sisters, Gayle (Colin) Gowan of Gladstone, Heather (Laurie) Kirkland of Portage la Prairie; and sister-in-law, Bev (Fred) St. Goddard of Palm City, Florida. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Bryan Gowan, Shauna (Matt) Fehr and their children, Caitlyn and Jacob; Myles (Jana) Gowan; Jamie and Jason Kirkland; and Andre St. Goddard.

Dean was born on August 31, 1956 in Gladstone where he grew up and received his education. He resided and farmed there until moving to Portage la Prairie in the early 1980's. He worked at Can-Oat and enjoyed spending time at Ofty's (TJ's) campground.

Dean had many interests in life. In his younger years, he played fastball and later enjoyed a game of golf, camping and snowmobiling. He enjoyed watching curling and hockey. In the last few years he became an avid Terrier fan and loved to ring his siren. Dean was good hearted, with a caring and generous nature. He treasured the times he spent with family and friends. Special thank you to Dr. Quesada for his compassion and dedication.

Memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel, Portage la Prairie, with Wilma Shirriff officiating. A private family interment will take place prior to the service.

As expressions of sympathy, if friends so wish, donations may be made in Dean's memory to the Addictions Foundation of Manitoba 1031 Portage Ave.,Winnipeg, MB, R3G OR8, or PAWS (Portage Animal Welfare Society) Box 1426, Portage la Prairie, MB, R1N 3N9.
