Lakea Dorothy Pauline Meeches

September 26, 1997 – July 22, 2016

Peacefully, in her mother’s arms, on Friday, July 22, 2016 at the Portage District General Hospital, Lakea entered the spirit world at the age of 18 years old.

Lakea has achieved many goals in life; a graduate from PCI, voting for her first time at the Federal Elections, traveling many miles across Canada and meeting many professional athletes.  Her most favourite moment was touching the Stanley Cup.  Lakea loved visiting family and friends, but mostly hanging with her brothers.  Lakea loved watching hockey and Nascar with her Dad, and she always had a smile on her face when she was riding shot gun with her mom.

Lakea leaves us as a beautiful young lady.  She’ll always be our beautiful baby girl.

She was predeceased by her brother Shelby Rae, grandparents Arthur and Dorothy Meeches and her Papa Doug Beauchamp Sr..

Lakea is lovingly remembered in her passing by her two grandmothers, Pauline Beauchamp and Brenda Myran. She will also be missed by her aunts and uncles, brothers Shavez, Shaden (Kailee Wagner), Shoel and Jonah.  Lakea will be deeply and forever missed by her parents Jamie and Lesley.

The family would like to thank Lakea’s doctor, Mike Omichinski, and all of the Portage Doctors, ER and ICU staff, and especially to the Surgical Ward at the Portage District General Hospital for all the love and care she received.

Visitation will be held on Monday, July 25, 2016 at McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel from 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm.  Traditional wake will be held at the Long Plain Spirit Lodge on Monday, July 25, 2016 beginning at 4:00 pm.  Traditional feast and service will be held on Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at noon led by Chief Dennis Meeches.  Pallbearers will be her four brothers, like the four directions; Shavez, Shaden, Shoel and Jonah.  Honorary Pallbearers will be all of Lakea’s cousins, as well as all of her aunties and uncles.
