In his early years, Kirt received his education at the Portage Collegiate Institute and transferred to Gordon Bell High School where he graduated. Kirt trained at the Regina RCMP depot; however after the training he decided this wasn't going to be his destiny. He gained employment with Dakota Ojibway Child and Family Services (DOCFS), for a number of years. He then attended Brandon University BUNTEP program where he met many lifelong friends. In his pursuit to become an Educator, illness overcame him which prevented further studies. In his earlier years, Kirt was successful in the Security Systems in which he was able to body guard celebrities such as Tom Jackson (who he traveled with across Canada), David Suzuki, and Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. Kirt in his youth became the President of the Portage Friendship Youth Program and traveled extensively to Youth programs across Canada.
Kirt enjoyed being with his family and friends. He marveled and planned numerous family entertainment sites for his children to visit and tour. His dream was to eventually tour Disney World. They talked about this venture for hours and cruised the internet to plan all the possible available sites in and around Disney World.
In Kirt's early years, the zeal for hockey enabled him to travel extensively in Manitoba, Saskatchewan and North Dakota. However, this passion quickly changed and Kirt's lifelong love of Martial Arts emerged. It is here, that he will be best remembered. Under his father's guidance, he became Master Kirt Prince. He studied in numerous styles which included: Prince Ogitchita Mixed Martial Arts, Jiu-Jitsu, Tia-Jitsu, Tae Kwon Do, Arnis, Dumong and SikaranIn. Kirt continued with his father's dream with Prince Ogichita Mixed Martial Arts (POMMA) in which he continued to operate to the time of his earthly departure. His commitment was to become a successful and unique Aboriginal fighting system. It is through these systems that Kirt made lifelong friends with other Martial Artists.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the Portage District General Hospital Medical Ward and Dr. Finney for the many efforts and acts of kindness in making Kirt as comfortable as possible in his final days.
