Kerry was born in Portage La Prairie and grew up in Long Plain and several communities within Manitoba. In the early years of Kerry’s life he was taught trapping and hunting skills, and with these skills were the way of survival for his siblings and his own family. Due to illness Kerry was no longer able to trap or hunt. Fall Season was something Kerry looked forward to every year, he enjoyed working in the states harvesting potatoes, beets and driving semi-trucks, and after he was done working, he would return home to gather up the boys and start the hunting season. In Kerry’s down time he liked to play bingo and slots, go thrifting, and Kerry would also like buying trucks and fixing them up. He was like a jack of all trades, he would get contract work from Long Plain to do Carpentry work. He had a fetish for hats and jackets. Kerry was full of life, and was someone that never sat idle. He always kept busy and had ongoing projects. Kerry was proud of his culture, he followed the traditional ways through attending ceremonies, dancing in sundances and attending pow wows. If anyone knew Kerry, they would know he loved to joke and tease. During the final weeks of Kerry’s battle, he had deep concern for his grandchildren who he doted over, he loved his grandchildren very much. Kerry had a special side kick who was by his side till the end (Bradley) who helped him immensely through his illness.
Miigwetch to Bradley, the staff on Dialysis, ECU, Surgical and Medical at Portage Hospital for the care they provided for Kerry, and to Long Plain Chief and Council.
