Karine Lee (nee Hrymak)

Peacefully, with her family at her side, on Tuesday, September 12, 2017, Nana, passed away at the Portage District General Hospital at the age of 72 years.

Left to mourn are her daughters Cindy (Ken) Mulder of Portage la Prairie and Kathy (Rick) Ducharme of Portage la Prairie; grandchildren Jordan Mulder, Cameron Mulder, Zachary Ducharme and Veronica Ducharme; siblings Valerie (Carl) Bolton of Dublin Ontario, Edith (Ken) Penman of Portage la Prairie and Illona (Ralph) Funk of Portage la Prairie; sister-in-law Gerri Stewart (Jim) and many nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her husband Stan; parents Charlie and Mary Hrymak; infant niece Jennifer Troop and brother-in-law Wayne Troop.

Karine was born July 14, 1945 in Brandon, MB.  She lived in Carberry and moved to Portage around the age of 3 years.  She was educated in Portage and then went on to attend the Pollock School of Hairdressing.  Karine met Stan, the love of her life, while dining at Dick’s Café and were inseparable from then on.  She continued to enjoy hairdressing throughout her life and additionally she started her own business; CK Promotions in the early 90’s with Carol Purich.

Everyone knew Karine because of her very public presence.  She was very social, a real people person.  Karine was loving, stubborn, but patient with many things, had a great sense of humour and loved a good joke.  She was very talented and selfless, she played a very active role in her grandchildren’s lives, be it work, school or interests. She loved her weekend time at Ofty’s campground, hosting many a happy hour .  Karine enjoyed hand crafts like cross stitching, crocheting, needle work, ceramics and calligraphy.  She found joy in cooking for her family and also spent countless hours cooking for the Portage Fire Department.

She volunteered for many organizations, such as, K-etts and Trefoil, Guild of Girl Guides, canvassed for various charities and worked for  Elections Canada for all three levels of Government.

A service to celebrate Karine’s (Nana’s) life will be held on Friday, September 15, 2017 at Trinity United Church at 3:00 pm with Beth Kerr officiating.  Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery.
