Joyce Aida Adamson

Peacefully at the Portage District General Hospital, Portage la Prairie, MB on Sunday, July 21, 2013 at the age of 83 years, Joyce Adamson passed away.
Joyce was predeceased (in 2005) by her loving husband Don of 51 years. Left to cherish Joyce’s memory are her children Murray (Sally) of Calgary, AB and Ken (Marie) of Winnipeg; grandchildren Katie (David Leahul), David, Carol, Scott and Jackie; great grandson Samuel; along with niece, nephews and their families.
Joyce was born on September 9, 1929 in Winnipeg. She married Don on June 30, 1954 in Winnipeg and in 1960 moved to Portage la Prairie and there raised their two sons.
Joyce was a dedicated, caring, loving and generous wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and friend.
The most important aspect of Joyce’s life was her family and friends. She also had many great joys of life which included the family cottage at Laclu, Ontario, Girl’s Club, Yellow Quill Drive Get-Togethers, Friday Night suppers, Walking Girls, morning coffee with neighbors, involvement with her church, love for animals especially cats, nurturing her tomatoes and roses, volunteering to help others, vacations with Don and entertaining her many dear friends.
Joyce had a special ability to develop and maintain very close relationships with everyone she knew. She truly had a heart of gold. She will be greatly missed by all who had the wonderful pleasure of being part of her life.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to all the Doctors and staff at the Portage District General Hospital, the Home Care Team and the many dear friends and neighbors for all their care, compassion and many acts of kindness.
A Celebration of Joyce’s life will be held on Thursday, July 25, 2013 at 1:00 pm in the McKenzie United Church (85 – 11 th Street NW, Portage la Prairie).
In lieu of flowers, donations in Joyce’s memory, if so desired, can be made to McKenzie United Church Memorial Fund, 85-11 th St, NW, Portage la Prairie, MB, R1N 2S2 or to Cancer Care Manitoba Foundation Inc.675 McDermot Ave, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9 or to Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba – Portage Office, 103 Wilkinson Crescent, Portage la Prairie, MB R1N 1A7 or a charity of your choice.
