Joseph Olafür Thordarson

With great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Joe Thordarson at Health Science Centre at the age of 65 years.

Joe was predeceased by his beloved wife Diana (nee Coates) and parents Snorri and Freda Thordarson.  He will be lovingly remembered by his son Benjamin Thordarson; granddaughter Chaise Raya Thordarson and numerous other relatives.

Joe was born on September 4, 1947 in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba.  He attended school in Amaranth and graduated from Red River Community College in 1970 having taken Radio Operating and Electronic Communications.  He continued his education at Brandon University taking courses in psychology and sociology.  Joe graduated in 1977 from the Psychiatric Nursing Course.  While attending school he worked at the Brandon Mental Hospital and after graduating he worked at the Manitoba Developmental Centre in Portage la Prairie for 12 years.  In 1990 he began a career as a long haul truck driver until 2005.  He made many friends throughout his life and he will be missed by all who knew him.

Memorial Service will be held at the Grace Lutheran Church, Langruth, Manitoba on Saturday, March 23, 2013 at 2:00 pm with Pastor Phyllis Thordarson officiating.

As expressions of sympathy, if friends so wish, donations may be made in Joe’s memory to a charity of one’s choice.
