Joseph Kazmier Oshust

With great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Joseph Kazmier Oshust on Tuesday, August 3, 2010 at the Portage District General Hospital, at the age of 89.

Joe was predeceased by nine siblings. Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife Anne of Portage la Prairie; daughters Jean Arberry (Roger Chanel) of Somerset, MB, Liz Penny of Notre Dame de Lourdes, MB and Lorraine (Gordon) Cuff of Edmonton, AB; sons David (Daphne) Oshust of Portage la Prairie and Patrick Oshust of Winnipeg; ten grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; brother Mike Oshust of Thunder Bay, ON and sister Emily Roga of Evansburg, AB and numerous nieces and nephews and their families.

Dad was born on February 1, 1921 in Sifton, MB to John and Frances Oshust. He was the youngest of 11 siblings so was doted on by his sisters. He left the farm at an early age to work in the mines in Ontario. At age 26, Joe met his future bride Anne Helash, in a restaurant in Dauphin, MB. They married October 8, 1948 and had 3 daughters and 2 sons. They had relocated to Portage la Prairie in 1956. Dad had been employed as a cook at CFB Southport for numerous years and then at the Manitoba Home for Boys for 12 years. At this point, Dad was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis so retired at an early age. In 2003, Dad became a resident at the Lions Prairie Manor.

Dad loved to watch hockey, golf, baseball and wrestling. He was an avid cribbage player and enjoyed bingo games. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the MS Association. Dad truly enjoyed time with his grandchildren.

Funeral Service will be held in Good Shepherd Catholic Church on Saturday, August 7, 2010 at 3:30 pm officiated by Father Eric Giddins. Interment is to follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
