With sadness we announce that Joe Cameron passed away at his home on February 9, 2024 at the age of 70 years.
Left to mourn Joe’s passing are his children Bronson (Bianca), Lois, Tonya (Ray) and Bailey (Alexis), grandchildren Landon, Victoria, Melina, Braylen, Ianna and Darius, great grandchild Elijah, siblings Margaret Peters, Bob (Anne) Peters, Doris Cameron and Carol Cameron (Glen) as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Joe was predeceased by his parents Sam and Isabel Cameron, siblings Elsie, Barry and Lawrence and grandparents Donald and Louise Peters.
Joe was born in Winnipeg on October 1, 1953, where he grew up and went to school in the North End. He attended Pinkham School. In early years he hung out with friends playing pool at Obie Billiards on Main Street. He started working at Bell Foundry where he stayed for several years, and also worked for CP Rail for a number of years. Joe moved to Vancouver in the 1960’s where he worked on the PNE racetrack where he worked with race horses. While in Vancouver, he met Avis, the love of his life and the mother of his children, twins Bronson and Lois Cameron. Eventually he moved back to Manitoba, staying in Portage and Long Plain. He did some contract work for Long Plain First Nation along with friends Kelly Peters and Paul Myran.
Traditional Ceremony will be held on Friday, February 16, 2024 at 1:00 pm at McKenzie’s Portage Funeral Chapel. Burial to follow at the Yellowquill Cemetery.
