John Scott

d. August 14, 2012

John Thomas Scott

John passed away on Monday, August 14th, 2012 at the Portage General Hospital in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba at the age of 68 years.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife Nadene, of 41 years, in 2006; parents Tom and Clarice, sister Beverly, sister Betty, and brother Robert.

Lovingly remembered by his companion Marlene Pliszka of Portage la Prairie, children Brian Scott of Portage, Kelly Scott (Sandra Skorpad) of Winnipeg, Mb, grandchildren Kira and Kaelen Scott, Brenden and Bailee Scott and Andrew and Noah Skorpad, siblings Margaret (Les) McCuaig of Portage, Shirley (Ron) O'Neil of Portage, Charlie (Donna) Scott of Ottawa, ON, Gerald (Doris) Scott of Portage, Albert (Sandy) Scott of Carman, MB, brother-in-law Jack Ediger of Portage, along with many nieces, nephews, and their children, godson Christopher Allanson, and many friends and acquaintances.

John was born in 1943 in Portage, spending his early years on the family farm, as a young teenager the family moved to Portage. From the age of 12 he went to school and worked at Barrett's shoe store. After school he worked at the local John Deere dealership. Other than a couple of stops in St. Eustache and Virden, and a stint with the City of Portage as a Water Plant Operator, his career was with Christianson's Ltd and Enns Brothers John Deere, he was forced into an early retirement in 2002 when health would not allow him to work. He lived in the family home from 1975 until his passing.

John was a hard working, loyal employee for years, working two jobs to ensure Nadene could be at home and raise the kids. He always had a good sense of humour, sometimes teasing his nieces and nephews into submission. Uncle John had a smile for everyone.

Many evenings were spent with family and friends, playing cards, bowling, playing baseball and of course hockey. He was an avid fan involved with the Portage Terriers Hockey Club and an executive member for over 30 years. He spent most games with Nadene by his side, right behind the penalty box.

John was a collector of almost anything he could collect, especially all things "John Deere". He enjoyed travelling as much as he could in recent years including Hawaii, Graceland, Mexico and Jamaica.

After Nadene's death he got involved with the Herman Prior Centre to maintain his sense of purpose.

Funeral service will be held on Friday, August 17th, 2012 at Trinity United Church at 1:00 pm in Portage la Prairie, Mb, led by Reverend Margaret Scott. Interment will follow in the family plot at Hillside Cemetery.

Memorial donations in memory of John may be made to Central Plains Cancer Care, 318 Sask. Ave. E, Portage la Prairie, MB, R1N OK8.
