Joanna, beloved daughter and sister was born 13 October 1955 in St. Albans, England and died 22 April 2013 in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba.

Predeceased by her father Antoni, Joanna is mourned by her mother Halina and sister Krystyna.  Joanna was named after her paternal Polish grandmother.  Joanna had various medical issues from the beginning to the end of her life. She lived with her parents and sister till she was sixteen, then went to live at the Manitoba Developmental Center till her death. The best time was when Joanna resided in a cottage at the Center for that most closely represented home life and a safe refuge.  Although unable to speak and unable to hear, Joanna nevertheless carved out a niche for herself through determination, tenacity and sheer willpower. She would make her wishes known by gestures or action and would not take no for an answer. Joanna was a gentle soul who will be mourned by those who loved and cared for her.

The family thanks everyone who strove to make Joanna's final days comfortable, especially those who provided care or stood watch so she would not be alone at any time.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at the Manitoba Developmental Chapel, Aspen Centre with Rev. Ron Siemens officiating with a reception to follow.  Internment will take place privately at a later date at Holy Ghost Cemetery, Winnipeg.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to a charity of your choice.
