Joanna Meeches

With great sadness we announce that Joanna Meeches began her journey to the spirit world on Friday, June 3, 2022 at the St. Boniface General Hospital at the age of 45 years.

Left to mourn Joanna’s passing are her children Rachelle Merrick, Louis Jr. “Sonny” (Cheyenne) Merrick and Jake (Ashley) Merrick, grandchildren Rayanna, Louis Max, Katniss, Kiara, Octavia, Kahaleesi and Baby Joe, siblings Tina (Aaron) Daniels, Tracey (Nathan) Daniels, Russell Jr. Daniels and Cornell Belanger, special cousins / sisters Tannis and Farrah, friend and father of her children Louis Merrick and in-laws Florence and Ralph Merrick, as well as many aunties, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Joanna was predeceased by her mother Debbie Meeches, father Russell Roulette, brother Darryl Smoke and siblings Rosalind, Rachel and Rene at birth.

Joanna grew up in Long Plain and received her education at Long Plain and Portage la Prairie. When she was growing up, Joanna was a bit of a tomboy, she enjoyed playing baseball and she was always full of energy. She met Louis Merrick at a young age and they had 3 children together. Joanna was very outgoing and she loved to spend time with her friends and family joking around and laughing. She was always ready for the next adventure! Although there were times when life was rough, her would revolved around her children and grandchildren and she always did her best to spend time with them.

Wake will take place at Long Plain Spirit Lodge on Thursday, June 9, 2022 at 4:00 pm.  Feast and Ceremony will be held at Long Plain Spirit Lodge on Friday, June 10, 2022 beginning at noon followed by burial at Dauphin Myran Cemetery.

A tree will be planted in memory and cared for by McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel.  www.mckenziesportagefuneralchapel.com
