Jeannie Cooper Crandell (nee Rodger)

Peacefully on December 27th, 2024, Jeannie Crandell passed away at Lions Prairie Manor at the age of 105 years. 

She leaves to mourn her three children: James (Laura) of Winnipeg, Florence Piche of Williams Lake, BC, and Vernon (Jr.) (Patricia) of Portage along with numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. 

Jeannie was born April 3, 1919 on the homestead near Wheatstone, Sask. to James and Lizzie Rodger.

Predeceased by an infant brother, she became the eldest of four surviving children, Willy, James, and Anne. Both of her parents died while Jeannie was still young and she and her siblings were passed on to other family members to raise. All of her siblings have since passed away. 

Jeannie married Vernon Loren Crandell on Oct. 11, 1939. They lived in several small towns in Saskatchewan before settling in Bengough in 1947. They remained there until 1997 when they moved to Portage to be closer to family. Dad passed away in 2002. 

Mom enjoyed sewing and made many of her own clothes in her younger days. She was also involved in the Royal Purple and the United Church. 

The family would like to extend our thanks to the staff of Lions Prairie Manor for taking very good care of her for the last six years. You truly went out of your way to make her feel special. 

A graveside service will be held on Friday, Jan. 3, 2025 at 2:00 pm at Hillside Cemetery. The service will be live-streamed, to register and view the service visit Jeannie’s obituary page at www.mckenziesportagefuneralchapel.com.
