Passed away, with her family by her side, on February 20, 2011 in Portage la Prairie, after a courageous battle with cancer. She is survived by her husband Ken and daughters Leslie-Anne Hornberger (Barry) and Bobbi-Jo Gauld (Stuart), as well as her brother Evan (Margaret) Smith, and sisters Elizabeth Hinch and Erna Honeyman. She was predeceased by her parents, John and Sophia Smith, sister Sandra Rojik, and brother in law Howard Hinch.

Mom grew up on the family farm near Rapid City and moved to Portage in 1960 when she married Dad, who came from the Kirkham's Bridge area near Brandon. They raised their family in Portage and continued to reside here, where they recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Mom loved her home away from home, #17 East Beach, Delta, the scene of numerous family gatherings and celebrations. Over the years Mom & Dad enjoyed many warm weather vacations and trips to curling events across Canada. They began a new chapter with the purchase of the 'tin house' in 2002. This was the beginning of many great camping adventures spent with family and friends. Mom made sure her home was filled with love, great food, and laughter, and there was always a cup of coffee waiting for you. She spent many hours sewing wonderful clothing and, in recent years quilts. She developed a passion for golf later in life and enjoyed many a warm summer morning teeing off with her golf buddies.

Mom will be missed dearly, loved always and never forgotten.

A Celebration of Mom's Life will be held on Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at 2:30 pm in the Lower Auditorium of the Trinity United Church, with a time of fellowship to follow.

As expressions of sympathy, if friends so wish, donations may be made in Jeanne's memory to the PCU Centre, City of Portage la Prairie, 97 Sask. Ave.E, Portage la Prairie, MB, R1N OL8.
