Jeanne Green

September 1, 1923 — January 9, 2016

Jeanne Marie Green

After a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s, Mom passed away at the Lion’s Prairie Manor on Saturday, January 9th at the age of 92.  Jeanne was born in Wyevale, Ontario on September 1st, 1923.  After graduating from high school in Elmvale, Ontario, Jeanne went onto to become a lab technician and studied in Toronto.  She joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in November 1942 and was stationed to Scoudouc, New Brunswick where she used her lab skills to test gun powder for World War 2.  While in Scoudouc, she met Jack Green who was also stationed there with the air force.  After their honourable discharge they were married on July 31st, 1945 in Wyevale, Ontario.  Jack and Jeanne returned to Portage where Dad took up the family business of painting and decorating.  Mom worked as a receptionist for Central Medical in the early 70’s, and later on for Dr. Murray as a receptionist/bookkeeper in his optometry business.  Mom was an avid gardener and cook.  She spent many fond hours in the garden at Cottonwood Drive growing and harvesting vegetables and fruit from their garden and fruit trees.  She took great pride in all her flowers and perennials that were planted throughout the grounds of their home on Cottonwood Drive.  Jeanne was a dedicated Legion Member and veteran, and she and Dad spent many happy hours socializing there with friends and family.  They also enjoyed their many trips down South enjoying the beaches and the people of the Caribbean and other warm destinations.  Mom was loved by many as her friendly nature and willingness to see the good in everyone was a quality that all admired.  She loved to laugh and enjoy the company of her family and friends. She will be lovingly missed by their three children: son Jan and daughter-in-law Linda and their two boys Christopher (Sharon) and Ryan (Julia), daughter Jacqueline and her two boys Kyle and Clinton, and daughter Sheila and son-in-law Rick.  Also missing their great grandma is Connor (Chris and Sharon) and Lucas and Hudson (Ryan and Julia).  Jeanne’s loss will also be felt by the staff on Parkside at the Lion’s Prairie Manor where she spent the last 7 years of her life, and in true Jeanne form, was able to win the hearts of all that knew her.  Her always pleasant, kind and caring nature carried her through until the end.  In keeping with Mom’s wishes, cremation has taken place, and a private family graveside service will be held at the Hillside Cemetery at a later date in the spring.  After the burial of Mom’s ashes, she has requested that friends and family meet downstairs in the Legion to celebrate her life together.  We know that Mom would want us to raise a glass and have a toast in her honour.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Jeanne to the Royal Canadian Legion – Branch #65, 275 Duke Ave, Portage la Prairie, MB R1N 0S5 , or to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 108 B Saskatchewan Ave. E. Portage la Prairie, MB, R1N 0L1.

A tree will be planted in memory and cared for by McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel.  204-857-4021 www.mckenziesportagefuneralchapel.com
