It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jeanne Burke on Friday, June 6, 2014 at the Portage District General Hospital at the age of 71 years. She passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones after a battle with cancer.
Jeanne was born July 12, 1942 in Haywood, Manitoba, daughter of the late Ernest and Marie Gagne. The family moved to Portage in the early 1950’s. She married Bill Burke in 1963. Her beloved Bill predeceased her in January of this year.
Her memory will be cherished by her son Paul (Christine) Burke, daughter Valerie (Robert) Boudreau, her grandchildren Eddie, Jaryn, Beckie-Jo and Kerynda and 2 great grandchildren Jacob and Abbigail. She is also survived by her 3 sisters Dianna Dubois, Lucille (Ed) Duchnycz, Irene (Andy) Landry, 2 brothers Albert (Darlene), Eugene (Anita), her in-laws Betty (Mac) MacDonald, Dorothy Leckie, Margaret McKeller, Bev (Rene) Ladouceur and Bobby (Ann) Burke; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by her in-laws Harry and Audrey Burke, a sister-in-law Maureen Gagne and a brother-in-law Wayne McKellar.
Jeanne worked at Robinsons and Canadian Tire where she made many friends. She enjoyed camping for years at Bambi Gardens and in the last few years at Creekside.
The family wishes to thank the staff of the Portage District General Hospital and of the Palliative Care Program.
Funeral Mass will held at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, Portage la Prairie, on Wednesday morning, June 11, 2014, at 10:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jeanne’s memory Central Plains Cancer Care Services, 318 Saskatchewan Ave. E., Portage la Prairie, MB R1N 0K8.
