Jean Szepel
With great sadness we announce the passing of Jean Szepel on Monday, May 28, 2012 at the age of 85 years.
Jean is survived by her children Audrey Meronenko of Portage, Marie Sopko of Calgary and Barry Szepel of Winnipeg, two sisters Teenie of Dauphin and Vickie of Edmonton, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Sam Szepel, her parents Michael and Mary, sisters Shirley, Antonia, Elizabeth, Annie, Olga and one brother in infancy.
Jean was born in Dauphin, MB on March 10, 1927. She was raised north of Dauphin and attended the Drifting River School. Jean was a quiet individual who could be quite comical and she enjoyed a good joke. She easily made friends with those around her. Jean enjoyed flowers and gardening, looking after children and helping out on the farm. She also enjoyed cooking and always made sure that her guests would leave her home with a full stomach.
Jean spent a period of her working years at the Lions Prairie Manor as a Dietary Aid. She enjoyed her time there and the interactions with staff and resident's. She also attended and was involved in the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
Visitation will be held at McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel on Friday, June 1, 2012 from 7:00 a�" 8:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held at McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel on Saturday, June 2, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will take place at a later date at Hillside Cemetery.
