Jean Boddy

(nee Simpson)

Suddenly at Regency House on Saturday, May 8, 2010 Jean Boddy passed away at the age of 89 years.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband Jim Boddy, parents Thomas and Jessie Simpson, brothers Charlie Simpson, Harold Simpson, twin sister Muriel McKenzie, sister-in-law Mary Simpson, brothers-in-law Lindsay Clements and Allen McKenzie.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters Norma (John) Leader of Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta, Gail (Larry) McIntyre of Medicine Hat, Alberta and Colleen (Jim) Pallister of Rural Portage la Prairie; grandchildren Jennifer (nee Leader) Pedersen, Jeffrey Leader, Scott, Christopher and Brett McIntyre, Bryce, Tess, Claire and William Pallister; six great grandchildren; her sister Helen Clements of Portage la Prairie and many nieces and nephews.

Jean was born on July 1, 1920 on a farm in the Salem District. She delighted in the unique experience of having a twin sister to grow up with. Playing ball, winning foot races at school picnics and going to dances were highlights of her youth. After graduating with her grade 10, she worked for various neighbors helping with household chores and caring for children.

Later she moved to Portage la Prairie and was employed by Portage City Bakery (Rohmier's) followed by Singer's Sewing Machine Co. There she developed her skills and interest in sewing. On June 21st, 1947 Jean married Jim Boddy and they moved to the family farm in the Rob Roy District near Oakland. She loved caring for her family, her home, her garden and working alongside Jim on the farm. She was actively involved with the Murray U.C.W. She served as a project leader in Oakland 4-H Club where her sewing and handwork talents were passed on.

After raising their three girls, they retired from farming and moved to Portage in 1990. Here she continued to volunteer in the community through the Rebekah Lodge and charity canvassing. Mom loved to be busy and rarely sat down. She was selfless with regard to her family.

She loved spending time with all of us. She had the gift of play and knew how to make young children laugh. Being a mother came naturally to her. She was truly a rock we could always count on.
