It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Jason Lilley on Thursday, September 1, 2022 at his residence at the age of 47 years.
Left to cherish his memory are his children Olivia & Tavia Jarvis-Lilley, Kobe Doherty-Lilley & Hope Lilley, all of Portage la Prairie, MB. He is also survived by his mother Louise and brothers Lyle and Christopher. He will also be lovingly remembered by his aunts and uncles all of whom considered Jason more of a brother than a nephew; Marion (Earl) Nogler, Larry (Barb), Wilbert (Connie), Norman (Tracey), Glenda (Gerald) Palendat, Allan and Kim along with numerous cousins nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his father Carl Edward Lilley, his grandparents who raised him from a young age; Eustache & Ina Lilley; uncles/brothers Ronald Ernie, Johnny and Ken.
Jason came to live with his grandparents after his father had passed away in 1977. He was raised in a loving close knit family of 7 kids still living at home. He attended La Verendrye and PCI where he graduated in 1994. He exceled in all sports that he played while in school, making friendships that would last a life time, one of them is Jeff Wood.
After high school he was employed by the K&G Mushroom plant, he then went on to work at the MDC and most recently New Directions where he was employed for the last year. His clients and co-workers all loved him.
Throughout all his life he always did yard work, which started with Kenny. Later on in life he eventually started his own business called Jason’s Yard Care. He had numerous clients for grass cutting, tree trimming, or snow blowing in the winter. Just this summer his son Kobe was able to help him cut grass. Kobe enjoyed doing that, not only making a little pocket change but also spending quality time with his dad. He was always there to lend a hand with anyone who needed him, especially Kim and Allan.
His greatest loves by far were his children. At any time of day or night he would have at least one of them with him. He was the best father, role model that any child could have. Given a choice of camping or being able to spend time with Jason, they always chose their dad. He took a special interest in all their activities, sporting events or to the big Lilley gatherings where they got to reunite with all their cousins. He was the life of the gatherings, playing the dice game, playing hockey with his cousins Friday nights or having drinks around the bon fire.
Jason grew up in a very competitive sports family. He started out as a bat boy where he then eventually was old enough to join the time as a player. He was in so many sports, recently the local Sunday soccer team. He played rec. hockey, mixed baseball, floor hockey and was an avid pool player. He also ran in many half marathons in Winnipeg. His favorite sport to watch was basketball where his favorite player is the name of his son Kobe.
Memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 17, 2022 at the William Glesby Center at 1:00 pm. Interment will follow at Hillside cemetery.
If friends so wish donations in Jason’s name may be made to PAWS, 121 12 St NE, Portage la Prairie, MB R1N 4A2 or to any Sports Club in Portage.
