With family at his side, James Cyr Vivier passed away on Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at his home in Long Plain. After a lengthy battle with diabetes, James passed away at the age of 63 years.
He was predeceased by his daughter Kelli, son Jeremy, parents Toby and Marie Louise Meeches, brothers William, Jasper, Rodger and Clifford and sisters Doreen, Betty, Margaret and Bernice. Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife Kim, sons James Jr. of Long Plain, Jerrett (Chelsey) of Long Plain, Duane (Devan) of Winnipeg and Curtis of Winnipeg; daughters Chantel of Long Plain, Sherri of Minnisota and Aprel (Bob) of Long Plain; stepchildren Dustin (Darla) and Alana (Tim) all of Portage la Prairie; brothers Ted of Winnipeg, John (Pauline) and George (Annette) all of Long Plain; sisters Elsie , Virginia and Veronica (Ralph) all of Long Plain and Lorretta of Winnipeg and many grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
James was born in MacGregor, MB and raised in Long Plain. He received his education at Cecelia Jeffery Residential School in Kenora, Ontario. Before his struggle with diabetes, James enjoyed playing hockey and baseball. James was a very strong believer in his traditional and cultural belief. He enjoyed talking to everyone about tradition and culture and his travels to different ceremonies. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Traditional Wake will be held on Saturday, March 6, 2010 at the Long Plain Spirit Lodge. Traditional Funeral will be on Sunday March 7, 2010 beginning at 11:00 am and the burial at the Long Plain Cemetery at 12:00 pm with a feast to follow.
The pallbearers will be Garnet Meeches, Gregory Meeches, Jeff Roulette, Lorne Meeches, Sage Meeches and Doug Beauchamp Jr.
