James passed away peacefully at home with his loving family at his side.
James was born in Brandon Manitoba. At an early age the family moved to Alberta.
He graduated from Alix, Alberta, and was the recipient of the Governor General’s Award. He obtained his Bachelor of Music degree at Calgary and his Education degree at Lethbridge. He began his teaching career at Cremona, Alberta; then moved to Manitoba where he taught two years at Gladstone and the last 20 years at Portage la Prairie.
James dedicated his whole career to music and was very proud of all his students. He loved to participate in festivals and organize band trips to such places as Nashville, Cuba, Halifax and New Orleans.
Some of the many things he involved himself in were the Central Manitoba Choir Association, choir retreats and local theatre productions. He was a ready volunteer for any task.
James often spoke of how much he appreciated all the support from administration, parents and his students.
James had a quick wit, a wonderful sense of humour, loved to travel and cherished his family and friends.
He is survived by his parents, Jack and Mary and sister Jackie of Kelowna, BC; his uncles Ken (Joan) Reynolds, Tully (Arlene) Hatch and David Hatch and his aunt Joan Hatch as well as numerous cousins and three godsons.
