James Garnham

On Wednesday, July 8, 2015 Jim Garnham passed away at the Douglas Campbell Lodge, Portage la Prairie at the age of 84 years.

He will be lovingly remembered by his children Gwen Armishaw, Donald Garnham, Brenda Muckley (Gary Costley), Myrna (Roy) Dezeng and Marge (Victor) Smoke all of Portage, daughters-in-law Sally Vivier and Carol Garnham along with 15 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren.

Also left to mourn are his brother George Garnham; sisters Amy Lyttle, Muriel Connelly and Joyce Lidster; sister-in-law Frances Garnham and Ethel Garnham; many nieces and nephews and their families.

James was born on October 21, 1930 in Portage to Alfred and Zella Garnham.  He was the 10 th of 12 children born to them.   He was raised in the Portage area.  James met and married Pearl Favel in September of 1951.  Together they raised a family of 7 children.  James worked at the brickyard and pumping gas in his earlier years, then as a custodian for the Portage School Division for many years until his retirement in 1993.

In his leisure time he enjoyed carpentry, listening to old time fiddle music and dancing.  In 1994 he lost Pearl and he never recovered from that loss.  After a time he became ill and wasn’t able to care for himself.  He entered the hospital until he moved to the Douglas Campbell Lodge in 2005 and remained there till his passing.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife Pearl;  parents Alfred and Zella;  sons Ronald and Ben;  son-in-law Bill Armishaw; brothers Robert, Alfred, Alvin, Bill, Leslie and Stan; and sister Ethel.

Funeral Service will be held at McKenzie United Church (85  on 11 th Street NW) on Monday, July 13,2015 led by Shirley McLaren.

Viewing will take place from 1:30 to 2:30 with the service beginning at 2:30 pm.  Interment is to follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
