On Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at the Portage District General Hospital, Jake Bornn of Portage la Prairie, beloved husband of Marion Bornn, passed away at the age of 86 years.

Memorial service will be held at McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel on Friday, May 29, 2015 at 2:00 PM with the Reverend Marg Scott officiating.

Jake cut hair for over 50 years, operating Jake’s Barber Shop on Saskatchewan Ave until he closed the shop in 1990. He continued to cut hair part-time at home until 2011. Upon retirement he took up woodcarving, creating many beautiful pieces of wildlife. In his earlier years he enjoyed playing music with friends, especially the fiddle. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, 5 and 10 pin bowling, curling, golfing and trapshooting-winning many awards. He served as the president of the gun club and was a member of the Oddfellows, volunteering at the Saturday afternoon bingos. He also enjoyed playing cribbage with friends and participated in the Manitoba Senior Games.

Predeceased by his parents Peter and Katharina; step-mother Helena; brother Pete and sisters Nettie, Tina and Edna. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife Marion; children: Garnet (Lori) of Philadelphia, USA, Frances of Edmonton, Ken of Vancouver and Lois (Rob) Pauch of Portage la Prairie; grandchildren: Christine (Wendell) Doerksen and great grandchild Zaysha and Jenifer, all of Portage la Prairie; brother Bill of Winkler; sister Marie of Vernon; and sister-in-law Margaret of Austin.
