"Akhana Tateyampa Win"
Peacefully, on the morning of March 19, 2012, she left to be with our Heavenly Father.
She leaves behind to mourn, her beloved husband of 60 years, Donald; 8 daughters, Diane (Cecil) , Lorraine (Harry), Barb (Merv), Karen (Trevor), Corena (Paul), Sharon (Norman), Valerie (Vern), Ronda (Brian), and 3 sons Marvin (Jackie), Ken (Debbie), Darryl; 38 grandchildren, 53 great grandchildren, and 10 great-great grandchildren; one brother Clarence Atkinson, and many nieces, nephews and her special friends Annie Henry, Grace Daniels, Betty Daniels, Edna Merrick and all other elders from Long Plain.
She was predeceased by her infant daughter, Tina; parents Jerry and Clara Longclaws; brother Alfred and sisters Clarice, Doreen, and Eliza.
Mom worked hard all her life, working in the fields and warehouses of local farmers, namely the Faurschou Farms and Henry Brothers. She was a custodian with the Long Plain School until her retirement. Raising her family was her priority; equally important was providing for her children. Through her example, mom taught us about empowerment and the value of work ethics.
Mom was born and raised on Long Plain Reserve. She was a "survivor" of the Indian Residential School system. Mom was a social butterfly by going to bingo, attending pow-wows, travelling, and spending time with family members. Mom was blessed to have travelled to Las Vegas with her husband for their 53rd wedding anniversary. The highlight of their trip was sitting in the cockpit of the plane, while the pilot graciously allowed pictures to be taken.
She embraced both the traditional life and her belief in our Lord, Jesus. Her legacy of love, compassion, and endearment extended beyond immediate family and will forever live on in everyone's hearts and lives.
Active pallbearers will be: Howard Daniels, Terry Daniels, Jason Smith, Lyndsay Fontaine, Tyler Bruno, Marvin Jr. Daniels, Lance Daniels, James Assiniboine, Jerry Daniels, Greg Contois. All other grandsons are considered honorary pallbearers.
Wake was held on Wednesday, March 21, 2012 beginning at 4:00 p.m. at the Keeshkeemaquah Confrence Centre. Traditional Feast was held on Thursday, March 22,2012 beginning 12:00 noon followed by the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. also at Keeshkeemaquah.
