Isabell Lamont

June 10, 1925 — February 18, 2018

Peacefully on Sunday February 18th, 2018 with family by her side, Isabell Grace Lamont (Buchanan) passed away at the Portage General Hospital at the age of 92 years. Isabell was predeceased by her husband Jim Lamont, daughter Sharon Gunn and sisters Doreen Buchanan and Carman Kardell. She will be loving remembered by daughters Heather (Terry) Skinner and Lori (Gord) Ulrich, son-in-law Don Gunn, grandchildren Cole (Ashley), Riley (Heather) and Jordie (Ivanna) Skinner and Rachel and Renee Ulrich,  sisters Joyce (Alex) Makarchuk and Beverley (Richard) Messmer, sister-in-law June Lamont and many nieces and nephews.

Isabell was born on June 10th, 1925 in Drinkwater, Saskatchewan to Carmen and Eva Buchanan. She grew up in McCreary and Oakville, and as the eldest of five girls developed maternal skills at an early age. As a young woman Isabell joined the Navy and was stationed in Halifax. Upon returning to Portage she met the love of her life, Jim Lamont, and the two were married on April 29th, 1950. They settled in Bagot, had three daughters and farmed for a number of years before retiring and moving into Portage. Isabell worked hard, playing an active role on the farm.  She also worked at the MDC as a Dietary Aide. Isabell and Jim were blessed with five grandchildren, who were a source of endless joy. Isabell’s family meant the world to her and she took great pride in all of their accomplishments. Jim and Isabell celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary before Jim’s passing in 2011.

Isabell and Jim were fortunate to travel throughout North America and Europe. They also enjoyed old time music, dances, bowling, watching baseball and  community events. Isabell was active in the United Church, UCW, and Rebekah Lodge, and was a 4H leader for a number of years. She was a gifted seamstress and knitter, enjoyed playing cribbage and was a master at crossword puzzles. Isabell was resourceful, patient and could fix almost anything. Most of all, she will be lovingly remembered by family and friends for her kind and gentle manner.

A celebration of Isabell’s life will be held on Friday, February 23, 2018 at 1:00 pm at McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel with viewing prior to the service.  Rev. Kathy Platt will be officiating.  Interment will take place at Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
