Isabel Mary Cowie Matthews

The family of Isabel Matthews (Bennett) is saddened to announce her passing on September 16th, 2024, at the age of 97 years.

Isabel was born in Aberdeen Scotland in 1926, before she came to Canada she worked for Freeland Fish Market. She was in charge of accounting, also the buying and selling of fish to New York, London, and Berlin.

Isabel came to Canada in 1947, she was a switchboard operator in the town of MacGregor in 1948.

She met John Edward Matthews (Ted) in 1953, they were married in 1956. They had 2 children, a boy and a girl, that were the loves of her life. Isabel and Ted spent 60 years on the family farm in Image Creek in the RM of North Norfolk. They spent years together putting in the crops and watching the seasons change. Their love of the land and each other kept them strong throughout the years.

She leaves to mourn her passing her son Scott Matthews (Ursula), her daughter Pam (Bill), and grandchildren, John Matthews, Daniel Matthews (Rayanne), Alicia Matthews, Janette (Bryce) Nelson, and Victoria. Beloved nephew Norman (Marguerite) Smith, and their daughter Jennifer (Rob). She also leaves to mourn her passing 11 great grandchildren.

Predeceased by her beloved husband John Edward Matthews; granddaughter Amanda Matthews; parents Harry and Bella (nee Mitchell) Bennett; brothers Ruben, Henry and Joey Bennett and sister Victoria Smith (nee Bennett).

A private family graveside service will be held at Hillside Cemetery.
