Isabel Jean Gannon
Isabel Jean Gannon passed away in Portage la Prairie on Saturday, November 27, 2010 after a long battle with various illnesses. She leaves to mourn her children Gerry (Sherri) Hennessey and their children Meghan and Matthew; Rick Hennessey and his children Kerry, Kreg, Kole and Keegan; Sherri (Grant) Tidsbury and their children Brooke, Tara and Brandon; Kent (Erin) Guick and their children Rain, Hope, Heaven, Amber, Micalyn and Kerilynne; sister Margaret (Charles Schneider) of Edmonton and several nieces and nephews.
Isabel was born in Weyburn, Saskatchewan where she received her diploma in hairdressing. She moved to Portage la Prairie and practiced her profession for several years before taking employment at the MDC. Before her health slowed her down Isabel spent the past two decades looking after her customers for several years at the Oriental Pearl, Mr. Sub and most recently Tim Hortons.
Isabel was known as a strong willed person but moreover was recognized for her kindness and generosity. Although she did not have a lot to give, she would be the first to give her last dollar away to someone she thought needed it more. All of her friends could tell you that she always had a joke to tell, be it good or bad. In her younger years Isabel excelled at bowling and often had her name posted on the Prairie Lanes bulletin board. Grandma loved bingo and often enjoyed teaching her grandchildren a card game or two. Her competitive spirit always had her looking for her next cribbage challenge. She was very proud of her several grandchildren, as newspaper clippings and pictures were dominant fixtures in her home.
Isabel will be truly missed by her family and several friends whose hearts she touched in many different ways.
A private memorial service will take place at a later date.
Should friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations may be made to Portage Salvation Army a�" Food Bank, Box 476, Portage la Prairie, MB R1N 3B7.
