 With sadness we announce Ian Andrew Arlo Colby Merrick passed away on February 24, 2025 at Long Plain First Nation at the age of 26 years old.

Ian leaves behind his common in law wife Aberdeen Pelletier of Long Plain First Nation, parents Robert and Melanie Merrick of Long Plain First Nation, siblings Brenden (Shanaeha) Merrick of Long Plain First Nation, Ashley (Bernie) Houle, Noah Merrick and Chase Merrick, extended Family closest bros Cody Courchene and David Abraham, special friend Badger, Shirley Herman/Merrick “Kooks”, Peter and Sheila YellowQuill, Uncle Joshua YellowQuill, Aunt Kansas “Toot” (Robert) YellowQuill, Roger (Crystal) Herman, and many nephews and nieces, cousins and friends too many to mention.

Ian was predeceased by his grandpa Roger Herman, great grandparents Flora and Angus Merrick, great grandparents Flora Houle and Norman YellowQuill,  great grandpa Clarence Peters, sister Crystal Houle and great granny Katie Peters.

Ian’s worked at the Long Plain Store. Ian attended unto his last day at Long Plain up-grading. Ian was a humble and kind individual. He loved all his family and friends. Ian was full of compassion and always helped when he could. Ian spent his last few years with his Kooks Shirley Merrick, who he loved so much. Ian loved his pet that was given to him by his late granny Katie. Katie gave Ian his name “Beans”, because Ian would always bring coffee to have coffee with her.

The family would like to acknowledge Long Plain First Nation Police: Cst.Wesley Johnson and Cst. Max Beaulieu for their quick response and assistance and the Portage EMS Team who attended to Ian. Also Della Marie Merrick “Missy” of USA, Memory Merrick of Long Plain, Tracy Dandurand of BC, and Tina and Grace Daniels for their donations and support, and Long Plain Chief and Council for the financial support for the family. 

Viewing will be held from 4:00 – 10:00pm on Monday, March 3, 2025 at the Long Plain Spirit Lodge, Funeral Services will begin on Tuesday, March 4, 2025 at 12:00 noon. Burial will follow at Yellowquill Cemetery.
