Henry Edmund Davis
Peacefully on Saturday, September 5, 2015, Henry Davis passed away with family by his side at the Portage District General Hospital at the age of 93 years.
He was predeceased by his wife Helen; parents Jim and Catherine; brothers-in-law Lloyd Henderson, Robert Cardinal, Basil Rowley and Bruce Rogers. Henry will be lovingly remembered by his children Don (Val) Davis of Portage, Cathy (Bob) Tufford of Steinbach, Allan (Diane) Davis of Kenora, Ken (Julie) Davis of Calgary, Rob Davis (Christine Giesbrecht) of Winnipeg and Kevin (Tracey) Davis of Calgary; grandchildren Trevor Davis, Ryan (Michelle) Davis, Bradley Davis, Scott Davis, Sherri Tufford (Bob Heath), Deryk (Kelly) Tufford, Heather (Steven) Stiller, Jeff Davis (Karina LaRocque), Christine (Adrian) Clary, Melanie Davis (Tyler Wilson), Tyler Davis and Brayden Davis; great-grandchildren Brennan, Melody, Carson, Reese, Lauren, Harper and Hayden; sister Mary Henderson; brother Bert (Sheila) Davis; sisters-in-law Dorothy Cardinal, Viola Rogers and Marion Horwood; brother-in-law Doug Horwood; and many nieces and nephews.
Born in Shoal Lake, Dad began his work life with his father delivering fuel and working as an automotive mechanic in Shoal Lake and moving to Portage to continue a career at Davis Service Station with his father. He retired after working at Smith Motors and for a short time at Tecza Mercury. He enjoyed the outdoors while camping with Mom and family at various campgrounds in Manitoba and Minnesota. During retirement Dad and Mom camped many summers at Lynch’s Point where he was honorary mayor of the campground for several years. Dad enjoyed fishing, curling and especially spending time with his family including his many grandchildren and great grandchildren. In his later years he cherished his time “at the lake” in Kenora.
A Celebration of Henry’s Life will be held on Friday, September 11, 2015 at 1:00 pm at McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel led by Wilma Shirriff. Interment will take place at Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
