Hazel Madeline Titus

(nee Bass)

Mom's earthly journey began as the eighth child of Ernest and Jennie Bass of North Head, Grand Manan Island, New Brunswick, on November 11 1924. Her new journey began at Portage District General Hospital July 25, 2015 with family members by her side.

On September 11, 1947 she married Jack Arlington Titus at North Head, Grand Manan. Together they raised seven children: Brian (Joan) of Joffrey, AB; Nancy (Tony Buck) of Portage; Garth of Neepawa, MB; Sharon (Stewart Baker) of Siglavik, MB; Karen and Mike of Portage and Patty (Ken Maicher) of Sanford, MB.

She was feisty and cut to the quick if she had something to say. She was well known for her knitting and baking abilities. She enjoyed playing cards with her daughter Karen and spending time with her children, grandchildren, great and great-great grandchildren. Mom loved a good joke and her sense of humor remained until the end. Gardening was a hobby she enjoyed and her flower beds were proof of that.

Mom was predeceased by her parents, 5 brothers, 3 sisters, her ex-husband and her much beloved daughter-in-law Norah Titus. She is survived by her 7 children, 16 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren, one brother and one sister as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She left each of her survivors with a lifetime of memories of their own special times with her. Included are the many special people whom she considered extended family.

As per Mom's wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service for Mom will be held at McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel on Thursday, July 30, 2015 at 1:30 p.m.  A private family “tucking in” ceremony at Evergreen Memorial Gardens will take place after the luncheon.
