Harold Donald Lapointe

Harold Lapointe (86) died peacefully on Sunday, October 31, 2010 at Portage la Prairie, Manitoba. He was predeceased by his wife Betty Jean (Anderson). Left to cherish his memory are his sons Phillip (Portage la Prairie) and Peter (Windsor, Ont); grandchildren Pam and Christopher; great grandson Carsen; his niece and nephews and his many friends and many many acquaintances.

Born in Dresden, Ontario, the last child of a very large farm family (27). He lived in West Germany, Southern Ontario and his last years were spent here in Portage la Prairie with his son and later at the Lions Prairie Manor. Sincere appreciation to ALL the staff at the Manor.

He served in WW2 in the RCA and was the sole survivor when his Halifax aircraft was shot down over Belgium in 1944; he was a POW for the remainder of the war. Every year thereafter, he remembered his crew in a special service. After the war he joined the Royal Canadian Dragoons and became a career soldier.

Harold enjoyed socializing, the Legion, golfing, curling, the Boy Scouts and many other activities that touched the lives of other people in positive ways. He loved life. He was full of stories (his motto was "why ruin a good story with the truth" yet every tale had a true meaning.) Harold made the people around him happy.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Duchess of Kent Branch 263 of the Royal Canadian Legion, 499 Hill Street, London, Ontario on Saturday, November 13, 2010 at 1:00 pm.

His ashes will be laid to rest beside his late wife in Dresden, Ontario on Friday, November 12, 2010 at 1:00 pm. Friends are welcome to join the family.

A donation to the Poppy Fund would be most appropriate.

A tree will be planted in memory and cared for by McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel 857-4021 www.mckenziesportagefuneralchapel.com
