Glen Brown

October 26, 1928 — July 13, 2015

Glen Campbell Brown

After a short illness, Glen Brown of Portage la Prairie passed away on Monday, July 13, 2015 at the age of 86 years.

Predeceased by his parents Raymond and Ruby; his loving wife Allyne and his sister Norma (Jack) Boyle of Golden Lake, Ontario.  He leaves to mourn his passing his son Ken (Helene) with granddaughters Jeanne and Simone; son Terry, all of Ottawa; nephew Jack Boyle of Vancouver; and extended family.  He will also be missed by the numerous friends he made after a long life in the Portage area.

Glen was born on October 26, 1928, in the East Prospect District of the Rural Municipality of Portage la Prairie, the son of Raymond and Ruby (nee Bell) Brown.  Glen attended East Prospect School and the Portage Collegiate Institute.  In 1959 he married Allyne Adie of Winnipeg and they settled in Portage la Prairie.  As well as assisting on his father’s farm, Glen drove the delivery van for Dann’s Cleaners until he was hired full time by the Liquor Control Commission in 1964.  Upon his retirement as Assistant Manager of the local Liquor Mart in 1989, Glen hit the links (as well as the curling rink in the winter) and he travelled with Allyne. He was also a life-long sports fan and was interested in hockey, baseball and especially football (both CFL and NFL).  He was a dedicated family man and in his later years enjoyed his visits with his granddaughters.

Funeral service will take place on Friday, July 17, 2015 at 1:00pm at McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel with Wilma Shirriff officiating. Interment will follow at the family plot at Hillside Cemetery.

As expressions of sympathy, if friends so wish, donations may be made in Glen’s memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba – Portage Office, 103 Wilkinson Crescent, Portage la Prairie, MB R1N 1A7.

A tree will be planted in memory and cared for by McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel.  204-857-4021
