Peacefully, with her family at her side, Gladys McMillan passed away on Tuesday, November 15, 2016 at the Douglas Campbell Lodge at the age of 97 years.

She will be lovingly remembered by her children Don (Donna) McMillan of Portage la Prairie, Betty Winitski of Winnipeg, Heather McMillan of Penticton, Larry McMillan of Edmonton, Rhonda (Mike) Manning  of Penticton, and Susan Van Hull (Gary) of Albert Beach; grandchildren Melanie, Matthew, Sheena, Sara, Blaine, Kevin, Reece, Adam, Amy, Andrew, Kaylan and Russell; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.  Gladys was predeceased by her husband Edwin; parents George and Martha Hicks and siblings Earl, Ethel, James, Millie, Doug, Margaret, Walter and Jean.

Gladys was born and raised in High Bluff, MB in a large family where there was lots of love and laughter.  She went to Normal school in Winnipeg.  Gladys and Ed married in 1945 and lived on a farm west of Portage la Prairie with their six children.  She taught school at the Agassiz Youth Centre for 25 years until she retired at 65 years of age.  She was involved in many clubs such as the Royal Purple, High Bluff History Club and the Portage Museum.  Gladys was an avid learner, instilling in her children and grandchildren the importance of education.  She loved to travel and was always ready for an adventure.  She was a great person, a wonderful mom and grandmother as well as a good friend and neighbour.

A service to celebrate Gladys’ life will be held on Saturday, November 19, 2016 at McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel at 2:00 pm.  A private family interment will take place at Hillside Cemetery.
