Gilbert Henry Catcheway

We announce the peaceful passing of our dad, grandpa, uncle, friend, Pastor, Rev. Gilbert Henry Catcheway of Portage La Prairie on Friday, October 13, 2017 at Portage La Prairie Manitoba at the age of 84 years.

Left to cherish his memory his daughters, Violet (Rene Gabriel) (Sonya, Ardelle, Diane, Reggie, Waneta, Eugene) Frances (Russell Roulette) (Roland, Radcliffe) Donna (Alphonse Nepinak) (Vernon, Sandy, Cory, Marty, Holly, Jocelyn) his sons, Ronald (Sylvia Catcheway) (John, Leah, Lorinda) Melferd (Maxine Catcheway) (Alicia) and all his grandchildren, great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews relatives, friends; Brothers in Law, Alphonse Catcheway, James Catcheway and Norman George Catcheway. Also left to cherish his memory Monique Lavallee, Lacy Mousseau, Kayla Doyle, Holly Gabriel, Kim Roulette, Randy Moreau, Ivan Amyotte, Jeremy Klodichuk.

Gilbert is Predeceased by beloved Wife Flora Jane Catcheway, his father Micheal Catcheway, his mother Louisa Catcheway (nee Sinclair) daughters Mavis Catcheway and his baby girl Amy Jane Catcheway-Amyotte, Great Grandsons Tyus Roulette and Lachlan Amyotte; Son in Law Arthur Gabriel; his only sister, Sara Gabriel, brothers Frank Catcheway Joe Catcheway, Alex Catcheway, Raymond Catcheway and George Catcheway.

Gilbert was a Pastor and a dedicated Minister of the Gospel for 54 years and up to the time of his death: He was one of the co-founders of The Day of Pentecost Ministry for all Nations; Pastor of the Catcheway Ministries Church located at 136 Sask. Ave; He was a current Board of Director for the The Day of Pentecost Ministry for all Nations.

Gilbert Catcheway's work history includes a Fisherman for 40 yrs. a Trapper, Cattle Rancher, worked for a number of years for Dominion Bridge Company, and in his younger years worked for the Canadian National Railways at Churchill MB; Former Band Councillor of Waterhen First Nation for approximately 30 yrs or more, Former Sanitation Worker for Waterhen First Nation. Also held other self-employment occupations.

Our dad loved children and enjoyed being around them, all the children who came in contact called him "grandpa"; He dedicated many children throughout his lifetime; Our dad made many visits around and prayed for those in need and his sole mission was to spread the Gospel. Our dad persevered every hardship and left this legacy to many and to never leave the Lord, his favourite saying was, "if you leave the Lord or give up where are you going to go? "There are only two roads to choose"; Our dad was dedicated to his Lord and Saviour to the end.

Our dad's favourite restaurants that he attended regularly were Bill's Sticky Fingers,  The Oriental Pearl and Chicken Chef and was treated very well by those who knew him there.

A Wake Service and celebration of life of our dad will take place on Sunday, October 22, 2017 at the MNP Exhibition Building situated at Island Park, Portage La Prairie MB starting at 6:00 PM.

Funeral Service will be on Monday, October 23, 2017 beginning at 11:00 AM at the MNP Exhibition Building at Island Park, Portage La Prairie MB, with Pastor Frances Roulette officiating. Interment to follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens, Portage La Prairie MB.  Pallbearers will be Marty Gabriel, Eugene Gabriel, Randy Moreau, Radcliffe Roulette, Jonathan Catcheway and Ivan Amyotte. Honarary Pallbearers are Charlie Bittren, Einar & Alice Woodhouse, Donald and Marybert Catcheway and all those who knew Gilbert, too numerous to mention.
