It is with great sorrow that the family of Garry James Pashe announces the sudden passing of our beloved son, brother, father, grandfather and uncle. He entered into his journey to the Spirit World on Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at his home in Dakota Tipi. Garry was predeceased by his father Bruce Pashe, siblings Gerald, Lois, Valerie and Bernice Pashe and nephew Sheldon Pashe.
He leaves to mourn and will be deeply missed by his mother Delores Pashe; children Melissa (Colin), Kristen (Clinton), Cory, Gracie, Brooklyn and Garry Jr.; sisters Trudy (James), Mary (Brian); brothers Barry (Lynn), Keith (Patricia), Cornell (Elizabeth), Braden, Arden (Marcia); many grandchildren, nephews, nieces, and all his Sundance brothers and sisters.
Garry was born in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba the eldest brother of his identical twin Barry by two minutes. He lived most of his life in his home community of Dakota Tipi First Nation. Garry went to school in Portage la Prairie and spent most of his life working in the political field for the Dakota Tipi First Nation.
Everyone knew Garry had a generous and helping spirit, always there to give a helping hand and so many times participated in community events. Garry will always be remembered for his passion and talents as a political leader for the Dakota Tipi First Nation for many years who always preserved and focused on the "people" and community development. His favorite pastimes were spending time with family and friends and time at the gaming center. He was known for his funny sense of humor and enjoyed sharing a joke or two with old friends at the community gaming center. Garry left us with so many loving special memories that will always be cherished, always to be remembered and never forgotten.
Traditional Wake will be held at 4:00 pm on Saturday, January 2, 2011 at the Dakota Tipi Gaming Centre. On Sunday, January 2, 2011 the Traditional Feast will begin at 11:00 am followed by the Funeral Service at the Dakota Tipi Gaming Centre. Burial will take place at the Old Sioux Village Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Kyle Pashe, Shane Pashe, Eric Pashe, Joshua Pashe, Leon Pashe, Travis Assiniboine, Evan Lilley, Arden Pashe Jr., Desmond Pashe, Shaun Pashe, Kevin Pashe and Troy Beaulieu.
The family would like to thank the Chief and Council of Long Plain First Nation, Aunty Grace and family, Melanie Pashe and family, the Clint McIvor family who adopted him as their own, Julio Salinas, Carry the Kettle, Thompson family and Derek Woods and family.
