Floyd Lacroix

d. February 20, 2010

Floyd David Lacroix

It is with deep sadness that the family announces the sudden passing of Floyd Lacroix on Saturday, February 20, 2010 at the age of 72 years. He was born November 27, 1937 in Portage la Prairie.

Floyd was predeceased by his mother Rose in 1990 and his father Floyd Louis in 1996. He leaves to mourn, his wife Maxine, son Dave, stepson Gerald, sister Edna (Cliff, Ian and Ingrid) as well as many more nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles - too numerous to mention.

Floyd was raised and spent most of his early years in Poplar Point. It was at this time he began his work at the family service station, Poplar Point Garage, and also at the family farm. Floyd followed in his father's footsteps learning his trade as a mechanic and of course playing the fiddle.

From 1965 until the end of 1982, Floyd was employed at Smith Motors, which later became Prairie Ford. Mr. Harry Smith who owned Smith Motors was someone who Floyd had much respect for. Being a Ford mechanic was certainly something he really enjoyed. In 1983 Floyd returned to Poplar Point to re-open Poplar Point Garage. It was there where he continued to work until his retirement.

During his retirement years, Floyd spent much time entertaining with his many musician friends. From the beginning to the end, music was always a great part of his life. He was most proud to be able to contribute to the community history book "It's About Time" (Poplar Point, St. Marks). Floyd spent much time reading about history both near and far.

Funeral Service will be held at McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel on Saturday, February 27, 2010 at 1:30 pm led by The Venerable Norman Collier.
