Florence Jane Welton

After a short but courageous battle with cancer, Florence Welton passed away with family at her side, on Monday, November 26, 2012 at the Portage District General Hospital at the age of 68 years.

She was predeceased by her parents Charles and Jean Welton and her brother Jack Welton. She leaves behind, Dalis Williams, her long time love; brother William (Sonny) Welton; sisters Irene Welton, Barbara Welton and Dorothy (Bob) Brigham; nephew Jason Brigham; niece Sheralin Brigham; and great nephew Lucas.

Florence was born in Assiniboia, SK, in 1943 and moved to Portage la Prairie where she received her education. After secretarial school Florence was employed by the Portage Mutual for 13 years. She then moved on to Stewart-Greenslade in 1976 where she worked until her retirement in December 2008. She enjoyed her working years and made many friends along the way. Florence loved to travel and enjoyed many vacations with her sisters Irene and Barb to such places as Europe, Florida, Boston, Hawaii, California and Graceland to visit her beloved Elvis' grave site. There were many humorous moments to remember about those vacations. She was always busy planning something. She spent many hours card making, looking through recipes, baking, reading, shopping and planning family gatherings. Florence also enjoyed going out to dinner and attending concerts with friends. She was a long time member of the Salvation Army Corp. and gave many hours of her time living her Faith. She was a loving, caring and giving individual making friends wherever she went.

The family wishes to extend their thanks to the staff of the Portage District General Hospital ETU for their care of Florence in the last 6 months of her life, she grew to consider many of you as friends.

Viewing will be held on Friday, November 30, 2012 from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm at McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, December 1, 2012 at 2:00 pm at McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery.
