Peacefully on Wednesday, March 21, 2012 Florence Ferris, wife of the late Roy Ferris, passed away at the age of 97 years at the Portage General Hospital.

Florence was born on April 19, 1914 to Joseph and Ellen Poole on the homestead south of Bruno, Saskatchewan. In 1922 the family moved to Manitoba to the Bagot District where Florence attended the Elsmith School. Following school she worked for five years for several farm families. During this time she met Roy Ferris and they were married in 1936. They resided on the Ferris home farm at Macdonald where they raised their two children, Marlene and Beverly.

Florence was a member of the Macdonald United Church. She taught Sunday School, and was a member of the W.M.S. ladies group. Once a month she led the Mission Band, a group of children at the Belle Plain School.

In 1983 Roy and Florence moved to the Odd Fellows Towers in Portage la Prairie. In Portage, Florence was a member of the McKenzie United Church and served on several committees of the church board. She was a Presbytery Representative for many years, a Conference Representative, and a trustee for the church. She was also a life member of the UCW ladies group.

Florence was predeceased by her husband Roy Ferris, her parents Joseph and Ellen (Dickieson) Poole, her sisters Ethel (Bob) Kyle, Margaret (Doug) Flannigan, Alice (Camille) Picton, her brother Thomas Poole, her sister-in-law Reta Poole, her son-in-law Harvey Meseyton and grandson John Meseyton.

Florence is survived by her daughter Marlene (Doug) Corbett, and their children Heather (David) Tuttle, great granddaughter Celine, and Brian Corbett and friend Ling Chow; her daughter Beverly Meseyton and her children Janice Meseyton (Tom Wilson) and great grand children Alana, Matthew and Daniel Wilson; Dianna Meseyton-Neufeld (Ken Neufeld) and great grand children Eric, Drew and friend Jenny Williams, Travis and Tory Neufeld; and Robert Meseyton and friend Rudolf Bijons. She is also survived by two brothers Leslie Poole and Howard (June) Poole, sister-in-law Doris Poole, and numerous members of the extended family.

Visitation and viewing will be held Monday, March 26 at McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at 2:00 pm at McKenzie United Church 85 -11th ST NW, led by Wilma Shirriff and Rev. Marg Scott.

As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made in Florence's memory to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, Catherine Newham Portage Office, 103 Wilkinson Crescent Portage la Prairie MB R1N 1A7 or a charity of one's choice.
