Evelyn Gwen Slack

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Evelyn Gwen Slack who left us after a brief battle with cancer just before her 65th birthday on April 21, 2024. 

Evelyn is survived by her brothers Lawrence Slack (Linda), and Kenneth Slack (Ricki); niece Shannon Matthews (Kory); great-niece Katelyn Matthews and great-nephew Joshua Matthews.  She was predeceased by her parents Floyd and Melba Slack.

Evelyn was born on June 18th,1959 and grew up in Rainy River, ON. She moved to Winnipeg, MB in 1978 where she devoted her 45-year long career to caring for the elderly at Golden Door Geriatric Centre. Evelyn’s compassionate nature and gentle spirit brought comfort to those she cared for, and she easily made many friends among her those who became her “work family”. Evelyn’s legacy of love, strength, and kindness will forever live on in the hearts of those who were privileged to know her.

The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the Doctors and nurses at the Grace Hospital for their kindness and care shown to Evelyn during her stay.

As per Evelyn’s wishes cremation has taken place and a graveside service will take place at Evergreen Memorial Gardens on Saturday, May 4, 2024 at 3:00 pm. 

In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Evelyn’s memory to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation 1160-675 McDermot Ave Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9.
