Peacefully, with her family at her side Evelyn Jean Bowser (nee White) passed away on Sunday, September 30, 2018 at the Lions Prairie Manor at the age of 84 years.
She will be lovingly remembered by her children Linda (Joss) Blanchette of Trenton, ON and Rick (Joan) Bowser of Portage la Prairie, MB; grandchildren Marc (Jackie) Blanchette, Chris (Trisha) Blanchette, Aime (Scott) Hogan, Karen Moar and Daniel Bowser (Jodi Sigurdson); great grandchildren Grace and Renee Moar. Her extended family includes many nieces, nephews, family and friends. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Perry Bowser; parents Arthur and Isabel White; brothers Roy & Fred White and sisters Eleanor Pilon and May Garbutt.
Evelyn was born on August 19th, 1934 in Winnipeg, MB. Early childhood years were spent in Sowden, ON, while her father worked for the railway. She attended school in Thunder Bay, ON. Evelyn enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces as a Fighter Control Operator 2 in 1952, she was stationed in St. Johns, QC and Clinton, Foymount and Edgar, ON. She met the love of her life, Perry while serving and they were married on April 20th, 1955 in Barrie, ON. After they were married they were stationed in various military bases across Canada and their two children were born in Moncton, NB. In 1966 they made their life long home in Portage la Prairie, where they both became active members in the community.
Evelyn was employed for many years at the Portage Credit Union and worked part time as a receptionist at the old Portage Clinic. She enjoyed many years volunteering with various organizations such as Portage RCMP Detachment, Central Plains Cancer Services and St. Mary’s Anglican Church.
Evelyn’s family was very important to her and she was always available to help with her children, grandchildren and many friends. When given a task to complete she would give it 100%.
Perry and Evelyn enjoyed many trips to various locations across Canada and the USA. She enjoyed 5 pin bowling for many years, making puzzles, knitting, sewing and following her favorite baseball team; the Toronto Blue Jays. She actively followed her grandchildren’s sporting activities and became an adopted grandparent to their team mates.
Funeral service will be held on Friday, October 5, 2018 at St. Mary’s La Prairie Anglican Church at 11:00 am. Evelyn’s family invited you to join them for lunch and refreshments following the service. Interment will follow at Chapel Lawn Cemetery.
