Eva McLoughry
(nee Schalla)
Eva McLoughry, aged 89, peacefully went to be with the Lord on May 9, 2017 at the Douglas Campbell Lodge with her family at her side. Eva was born December 19, 1927, in Steinbach, Manitoba.
Eva’s pride and joy were her granddaughters. She made many trips to Portage la Prairie to spend weekends with her girls. Gardening was also a love of hers. In the summer you would often find a pot of summer borsht made with fresh garden vegetables simmering on the stove. She loved people, the coffee was always on and you never left hungry. Eva had a heart for people in need which she displayed numerous times through words of kindness and giving.
Eva married the love of her life, Donald Lawrence McLoughry, in Vancouver, British Columbia in 1965 and in 1967 their daughter Patricia was born. Eva and Don resided in BC until 1970 at which time they returned to Manitoba making Winnipeg their home for many years.
Eva was a very conscientious employee. Over the years she worked for number of companies; The Eaton Company, The Nutty Club Candy Factory and Swifts Poultry factory to name a few.
In addition to working and raising her daughter and in support of her husband’s military service, Eva served on the ladies auxiliary of the Number 2 Legion where she was a long standing member for many years.
Eva was predeceased by her loving husband Donald Lawrence McLoughry, two sisters, six brothers and six step sisters.
She will be dearly missed by her sister, Louis Falk; daughter Patricia (Paul) Van Aert; grandchildren Stephanie (Wade) Campbell and Ashley Banman; great-granddaughters Taia and Peyton Campbell; many nieces and nephews, and a number of other relatives and friends.
The family’s heartfelt appreciation goes to all of the wonderful staff at the Douglas Campbell Lodge for the many years of loving care they provided to Eva.
A private family service will take place with the burial at Brookside Cemetery.
As expressions of sympathy, if friends so wish, donations may be made in Eva’s memory to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 108 B Saskatchewan Ave. E. Portage la Prairie, MB, R1N 0L1.
