Ethel Ella Murray

Peacefully on Saturday, April 16, 2011, with family by her side, Ethel Ella Murray passed away at the age of 88 years. Ethel was born near Gladstone on March 25, 1923, the seventh of twelve children born to Wallace and Louisa McIntyre. When she was a young girl the family moved to Ochre River where she received her education. In 1942 she married Albert Barrett of Portage la Prairie. She worked at several businesses and later at the MDC. After Albert's passing in 1978, Ethel married Martin Murray in 1990 who predeceased her in 1993.
Mom enjoyed spirited conversation, traveling, making quilts, writing poetry and especially flowers. She volunteered at many places. She was the rock of our family and will be sadly missed.
Predeceased by her parents and several siblings, she leaves to mourn her passing her children Brenda Massey of Winnipeg, Dennis (Fran), Bruce (Edith) and Brian (Norma) all of Portage la Prairie. Also surviving are three sisters Connie Bottrell of Devils Lake ND, Lucy Kilbourne of Portage la Prairie and Shirley Stovin of Winnipeg; one brother Gordon McIntyre of Ochre River; many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and a special family friend Tom Dezeng of Sooke BC.
Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at 11:00 am at St. Mary's la Prairie Anglican Church in Portage la Prairie led by The Venerable Norman Collier. Viewing will be prior to the service. Interment is to follow at Hillside Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ethel's memory to Portage Animal Welfare Society (PAWS), Box 1426, Portage la Prairie, MB, R1N 3N9 would be appreciated.
