Peacefully after a sudden illness, Ellen Griffiths passed away on Sunday, April 10, 2011 in the Portage District General Hospital at the age of 97 years. She was predeceased by husband Jack (John), father Jack (John) Edwards, mother Lillian(Knight) and stepmother Agnes(Jeffrey). Left to mourn Ellen are her son John (Monica), grandson David (Marla), great grandkidies Xandria and Mani and grandaughter Nicole. Also missing Ellen are her family Doris Nicol (Jim(a��)), Joyce Houston (Craig), Sandy(a��) (Helen), Allen(a��) (Doreen), Beth(a��) (Cliff(a��)), Audrey Edwards(a��), Bert(a��)(Ollie(a��)), Stewart(a��) (Flo(a��)), Gordon Harold (a��) and numerous loving nieces, nephews, cousins & friends. Ellen was raised in Poplar Point, Manitoba. Her father was a C.P.R. train station Master. Ellen grew up with an ethic for duty and family. She worked as a teacher in one room rural schools and in Winnipeg, St. Eustache and Poplar Point Colony. Her life thru the war years, depression, seeing mankind and technology flourish in Canada left her with many amazing stories and a renown memory to remember them by. She was spry and aware to the end of her 97 years and still living on the farm with son John and family living and farming on site. Slight aches and weakness gave way suddenly to illness of only 2 weeks before her peaceful and pain free end. She was a consummate teacher, devoted to family, always a help in need. She will be missed at the organ in St Anne's church and for her updates on Days of our Lives, Busby and Adler on the radio. Mostly I think we will all miss the phone calls and cards. Safe home Grandma. Please watch over and protect us all. The intercom is silent without you.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 16, 2011 at 2:00 pm at McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel led by Rev. Fraser Hunter.
