On Friday, January 7, 2011, Betty passed away at the age of 86 years. Remaining to forever cherish her memory are her son Richard (Marjorie) and her step grandchildren Susan, Tracey, Nancy and Michael and her step great granddaughter Teresa. She was predeceased by her husband Stephen in 2001 and her son David in 1978.
Betty was a wonderful woman who took life in her stride. As a child she loved to play hockey and baseball. During the war, she worked at the air force base in Portage la Prairie where she met the love of her life, Stephen Waller, whom she married in 1949. They lived together in many locations in Canada and Germany.
As an adult, she liked to curl and bowl and was an avid gardener. She could knit and sew like a professional. Betty loved animals of all types and had many amusing stories to tell of the animals in her life. She loved to feed the birds and looked after every stray or wounded animal that came into her life.
Betty volunteered at the Herman Prior Centre from its inception until she lost her hearing just 2 years ago. She was an invaluable asset to the organization and was always available to help whenever she was needed.
In memory of her, please love each other and give of yourselves to make this a better world. Betty would have loved to know that she could help others in that way.
Memorial Service will take place on Thursday, January 13, 2011 at 1:00 pm at McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel led by The Venerable Norman Collier. Burial will take place in the family plot at Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
As expressions of sympathy, if friends so wish, donations may be made in Betty's memory to Herman Prior Centre, 40 Royal Road N, Portage la Prairie, MB, R1N 1V1 or to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, MB R3T 0R3.
