Elizabeth was born on January 24, 1964 in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba. She attended several schools in the Portage area and graduated from Arthur Meighen High School.
Elizabeth inherited her determination and commitment to hard work from both her parents. She set high goals for herself and her children. She believed that a person could do anything they set their mind to as long as they had a goal or vision to work towards.
As a young girl she was employed at North Side Foods and at Panko’s Food Store. It was during her employment at Panko’s that she met a dear friend and mentor; Debby. It was Debby that recognized her natural ability in customer service and steered her towards a lifelong career at the Portage Credit Union, for which she served over 25 years.
Elizabeth met Mike when they were just 15 years old. It did not take long for them to realize that they were meant to be together and were married on September 14th, 1985. When Alex and Mitchell were born her family was complete.
Elizabeth’s life revolved around her family. When the kids were young the family would spend their summers camping and boating at Lake of the Woods, Big Point or Delta Beach. She never missed a school concert or parent teacher interview. She was very proud that her daughter Alex was attending university and that her son Mitchell was travelling and performing with the school band. She was a devoted daughter; looking after her father when her mother passed away. She was a devoted sister and could be counted upon in any situation.
Elizabeth loved the simple pleasures in life and knew that this was the real meaning of happiness; things like sharing morning coffee with her husband or spending time with Alex and Mitchell; not doing anything special- just being together. She enjoyed simple pleasures like listening to her favorite music; diverse artists such as Tom Petty or Johnny Cash. Elizabeth also loved her animals and she was never without a fury companion. Her cadawg (cat that thought he was a dog) Hunter was her current companion.
Elizabeth became ill on Saturday January 09, 2016. The next 3 days were spent fighting for her life; she did not do this on her own as her family was there supporting her every step of the way. She had an excellent professional team who took all measures possible.
God had another plan for our dearest and she left us on January 11, 2016.
She will forever hold a place in the hearts of all those who loved her.
The family would also like to thank the following care team, Neurologists Dr. Vosovghi, Dr. Gvranda, Dr. Mendiratta (Neil); Attendings Dr. Blouw, Dr. Cramsey; Resedents Dr. Goulay, Dr. Kroeker, Dr. Schmidt; Charge Nurse Tracey Williams; Bedside Nurse Shanley, Bonnie, Martena; Neuro Surgeons Dr. Nest, Dr. Bigder, Dr. Szelemej; HOBS staff Rachael (night nurse), Leoni (Day Nurse); ER Staff Dr. J.
