It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Eliza Watson on April 25, 2019 at Douglas Campbell Lodge in Portage La Prairie.
Eliza is lovingly remembered by her two sons Norman of Edmonton; Clifford (Dawn) and granddaughters Emily and Sarah Watson of Winnipeg; sister Phyllis McDougall of Portage La Prairie; many nieces and nephews and their families. She was predeceased by her husband George Watson; parents Alex and Johanna McKay; several brothers and sisters, and in-laws.
Eliza was born on September 6 on the family farm in McDonald. She trained as a nurse at the Portage General Hospital, graduating in 1948. Her career in nursing gave her the opportunity to work at a number of different hospitals and care homes in Manitoba. She married George in 1956 and they started a family.
Mom enjoyed music, poetry, photography, gardening, card games and amassed a sizable collection of keepsakes from her travels. She enjoyed watching sports, especially curling and baseball. Her favourite teams were always the ones that she considered to be the local team. She took great pleasure in having friends, neighbours and family over to visit and have a cup of tea. She truly loved caring for others and frequently passed along her well wishes and advice.
Take care, good luck, and God bless.
Heartfelt thanks to all of the staff at Douglas Campbell Lodge for the compassion, devotion, and the special care you provided to mom.
A private family interment will take place at Hillside Cemetery.
As expressions of sympathy, if friends so wish, donations may be made in Eliza’s memory to the a CNIB Foundation, 1080 Portage Avenue Winnipeg MB R3G 3M3.
A tree will be planted in memory and cared for by McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel. 204-857-4021 www.mcke nziesportagefuneralchapel.com
