Suddenly on Saturday, January 10, 2015, Edward Joseph Prince (Donnie Clunk) passed away at the Portage District General Hospital at the age of 59 years. Edward was diagnosed in June, 2014 with Pulmonary Fibrosis, which ultimately ended his life.
Edward Joseph Prince was born August 31, 1955 in Portage la Prairie, MB. Born to Ernest Edward Whitford and Florence Philomene Prince, he was their fifth child.
Edward was predeceased by his maternal grandparents Amab and Sarah Prince (nee Roulette), his paternal grandparents Pete and Henriette Whitford (nee Chartrand). He was also predeceased by many aunts and uncles. Edward’s greatest losses were his beloved parents Ernie Whitford and Florence Philomene Prince. He had tremendous love and respect for them. In addition Edward was predeceased by an infant sister Alma Prince, and brothers, Wilson and Charlie Whitford and another unnamed sister.
Edward spent a great deal of time at the Children’s Hospital in Winnipeg due to problems with his ears. This illness resulted in Edward having profound hearing loss. Despite all his travels and experiences, Edward very much desired to have a family of his own.
Edward or Donnie as his family and close friends called him, grew up in Amaranth, MB. working for many farmers and Parsons Transfer. After leaving Amaranth for a time, Edward worked many jobs across Canada and the US. In 1993 Edward moved back to Amaranth to be closer to family and friends. In 1998, Edward met his wife Sandra and they were married in 1999.
Edward leaves to mourn his wife of 16 years Sandra Perswain and his three children- his son Chevalier (Chevy) Prince age- 14 years, his daughters Fawn (Krista) Prince age- 12 and his baby girl Florence (Donna) Prince- age 10. He also leaves to mourn his immediate family, Russell Prince, Alford (Sophie Traverse) Prince, Earl Prince, Mary Clark-Prince, Cecilia (Dennis) Roulette, Beryl Sadie Prince, Kelvin Prince, Velma (Sheldon Jones) Whitford, Gayleen Prince, Brenda (Andy Perswain) Whitford, Sylvia Prince ( Darryl Harder), Doreen (DJ) Anderson, Hazel Prince, Sharon Melezzia Prince, Ernest Jr. Whitford and his very special nephews and nieces. On his family side- Daniel Roulette, Evangeline Roulette, Melanie Roulette, Henry Roulette, Orin Roulette, Myles Roulette, Jordano Buffa, and Kelsey Gagne, his godchild Tasey (Doll) and Deneelia Roulette and the Wilford boys and his sweet grandson Blue Shaylen Roulette. And of course Marisa Perswain, Catlin Perswain and all his sibling’s children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Edward grew up with a great love of horses, they were his life passion. He taught many people his methods and ways with horses. He participated in sundances, parades and many ceremonial rides. His greatest skills were driving his team with wagons he designed himself.
Traditional Wake will begin Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at 4:00 pm at Long Plain Spirit Lodge. Traditional Feast and Service will take place on Wednesday, January 14, 2015 beginning at noon.
