Edith Irene Rutledge

Surrounded by love, Edith Irene Rutledge passed away on Monday, September 27, 2010 at the Portage District General Hospital at the age of 80 years.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband Arnold; daughter Norma Dawn, son-in-law David Borland; sister Eileen Henderson and brother George Hiscock and brothers-in-law Allen and Bob Henderson.
Edith will be lovingly remembered by her daughters Brenda (Frank) Carreiro of St Francois Xavier, MB and Sheila (Les) Booker of Starbuck, MB; grandchildren Quinn Borland, Kara Borland (Jeff Shelby), Wade Borland, Sydney Carreiro, Tyler (Hillary) Booker, Andrew Booker and Nicole (Jared) Panasiuk; great grandchildren Delaney, Avery, Kai, Gabee and Alyx; siblings Arthur, Florence, Ethel, Shirley and Don and their families.
Mom was born in the Lenswood District on January 21, 1930. She received her education at McKay School. She moved to Delta Beach in her twenties where she met Arnold and was married December 20, 1952. Mom raised her family there and moved to Portage upon the passing of her husband in 1988. Mom then moved to Elie where she spent 9 years with her companion Irvin Rice until his passing. Mom returned to Portage where she resided with her companion Jim White for a number of years. Mom had a great sense of humor. She loved a good joke and was such a good sport when jokes were played on her. She especially loved playing cards and enjoyed teaching her grandchildren the game of crib. Mom was a real people person and enjoyed socializing with everyone. She belonged to the ANAF Ladies Auxiliary and the Ruth Rebekah Lodge. Mom loved fiddle music and rarely missed the Saturday night CFRY Polka Party.
Visitation will take place at McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, September 29, 2010 from 7:00 to 8:00 pm. Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, September 30, 2010 at McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel at 1:00 pm led by Rev. Julie Baker. Interment is to follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
As expressions of sympathy, if friends so wish, donations may be made in Edith's memory to a charity of choice.
