We grieve the loss of our husband, father and grandfather Doug, who passed away on Saturday, December 11, 2021 at the Portage District General Hospital at the age of 83 years.
Doug will be lovingly remembered by his beloved wife Gladys (nee Heppner) of Portage la Prairie, MB, son Ken (Karen) Nicholls of Austin, MB, daughter Joyce (Frank) Hay of Portage la Prairie, MB, grandchildren Alex (Colleen) Nicholls and family of Austin, MB, Kass Nicholls of Austin, MB, Kayla (Floyd) Flett and family of Portage la Prairie, MB and Ian Vivier of Edmonton, AB and Aunt Rhoda, as well as numerous cousins and friends.
Doug was predeceased by his parents Gordon and Mae (nee Sparks) Nicholls.
Doug was born in Oakville, MB on December 12, 1937, and received his education in Poplar Point and later Beautiful Valley schools. He married Gladys on June 1st, 1963, and they made their home in Portage la Prairie, where they raised their two children, Ken and Joyce. Dad had numerous jobs, too many to mention but for the last 26 years, until he retired due to poor health, he worked at Munroe Farm Supplies.
Dad was a quiet man of few words, but he always enjoyed morning coffee with his friends and Munroe co-workers. Throughout his whole life, curling was his passion, whether it was bonspiels early in life or watching on TV as of late. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping with family and friends. We have so many memories.
Doug's family will celebrate his memory privately.
If friends so desire, donations may be made in Doug’s memory to a charity of one’s choice.
A tree will be planted in memory and cared for by McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel. www.mckenziesportagefuneralchapel.com
