Douglas "Doug" Brown

It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Douglas “Doug” Brown with family by his side at the Lions Prairie Manor at the age of 90 years.

He will be lovingly remembered by his daughter Lynn (Rob) Schneider; grandsons Brad and Ryan; nieces Lori (Rick) Martin and Sandra (Rob) Burland; nephew Vance Brown along with extended family and numerous friends. Doug was predeceased by his loving wife Joan in 2004; brother Stanley and parents Connie and Errol Brown.

Doug was born in 1931 in Saskatchewan and moved to Portage in 1933. He was educated in Portage at Victoria School and PCI. Doug graduated with his psychiatric nursing in 1966. He worked at MDC from 1962 until his retirement in1988, where he enjoyed working with the residents.  Doug was an outdoors man who loved spending time at Delta beach/marsh. He enjoyed fishing and hunting with many good friends. An avid sports fan, Doug played many sports including football, baseball and hockey. He also coached hockey and Lynn’s baseball teams. In his later years he spent countless hours golfing at the PGC.

His 2 grandsons, Brad and Ryan, were the love of his life. He loved spending time with them and got particular enjoyment out of watching them play sports.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 13, 2021 at 1:00 pm at McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel led by Julie Baker. Due to covid restrictions, proof of vaccination will be required to attend.   Interment to follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
